About Elizabeth

 

Elizabeth McNear MS, RD, CSSD, METS 1 — Founder and CEO

Growing up, I always knew I wanted a career in nutrition education. I have always had a passion for cooking, science, and a deeper understanding of how the body works. Helping others learn how to enjoy food and use it to fuel their bodies was a very natural career path for me.

After receiving my Bachelors of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Colorado State University, it was off to the races working with athletes. I completed my dietetic internship at Saint Louis University and a Masters of Science Degree in Nutrition & Physical Performance. This led me to hold positions at the University of Mississippi, University of Florida, and the University of California Berkeley. During this time I had the opportunity to work with hundreds of collegiate athletes from over 28 different sports and various backgrounds.

Since founding Transitional Nutrition LLC in 2020, I have continued to work with high school, college, and professional athletes nationwide, including the Oakland Athletics. What sets me apart from other dietitians working in the community is my understanding of where you are coming from to better help you succeed in where you are going next. Holding a career in collegiate and professional sports nutrition has allowed me to understand the rigors of life and diet in athletics. I have vast experience working with nutrition recommendations specific for supplement use, sports injuries, busy schedules, and other sport-specific situations.

During my graduate school work, I completed a thesis assessing the dietary habits of retired athletes. I found their dietary intakes to be the same as the average American, despite having access to nutrition education during their competitive years. This research showed me that assimilating into a new lifestyle after sport is a major life change that can be daunting and difficult to manage. I am excited to be by your side as you make the transition to that next stage in life and provide the structure you need to make educated nutrition choices to live a well-nourished life!

I have honed skills in translating scientific nutrition principles in a manner that is interactive, easy to understand, and practical in application. I use a non-diet and hands on approach to nutrition counseling. My methods focus on life-long fueling habits, not just fueling to meet short term goals.
